LettersLETTER TO THE EDITOR: A neighbor requests your help

(Sept. 2, 2010) — TO THE EDITOR:

On Sunday evening, Aug. 22, Dr. Lina Jacewich’s 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, while parked in front of her residence at 110 Sunset Ave., was viciously and maliciously vandalized. The four tires were slashed and the auto’s body was repeatedly scratched removing the exterior paint.

Since Jacewich’s father passed away in December of 2006, she and her 89-year-old mother, Stella, have been aggressively and repeatedly harassed. Jacewich is respectfully requesting that anyone with information about Sunday’s deliberate vandalism contact the North Arlington Police Department to assist in its ongoing investigation.

Dr. Linda Jacewich / North Arlington

According to the bond ordinance, the money will be used to continue revamping Ridge Road from Garden Terrace to Hendel Avenue.

NORTH ARLINGTON (Aug. 19, 2010) — The North Arlington Volunteer Emergency Squad (NAVES) is run, primarily, by the commitment and devotion of volunteers throughout the entire week. At a time of economic crisis when more people are focused on obtaining jobs instead of donating their time for the greater cause, the number of volunteers has surprisingly increased from that of previous years — a true testament to the individuals who invest their time to the organization.

Top StoriesUnexpected finds in the wetlands

By John Soltes / Editor in Chief

(Aug. 12, 2010) — The wildlife of the wetlands in the South Bergen area is quite unpredictable. The local environment, which plays host to a number of avian, fish and mammal species, is never a textbook habitat. When naturalists and staff members of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission make their way through the environs of the Hackensack River, serendipity is the rule rather than the exception.

Recently, Jim Wright, communication officer for the NJMC and contributor to the Meadowlands Blog, encountered what he called a “doubly serendipitous” situation in Carlstadt. While he was accompanying a researcher with the New York Audubon Society at the usual stomping ground for the area’s snowy egrets, an unexpected visitor looked on.
